The choreographer delves into its “guts” to dance a troubled, carnal and beautiful version, far from the narrative. He is therefore, far more faithful to the oral tradition of an archaic tale, which we imagine to be quite subversive, than to the far more mawkish interpretation left by the Grimm brothers. Fascinating, unreal and political all at once, this age-old story is one of those that works to arouse fear and play, fright and pleasure.
